Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty with Dr. Maher Anous
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say, but what happens when someone has a noticeable “flaw”? Some might embrace the very thing that makes them different or unique from others, but not everyone. For some, the difference bothers them, making them feel insecure or less confident than they’d like. If you feel that your flaw is the size and shape of your nose, you’re not alone.
Rhinoplasty, or a nose job as it is more commonly called, is a highly sought-after surgical procedure that sculpts and shapes the nose to create facial harmony and improve proportions. This surgery can correct nose size, width, position or shape of the nostrils, humps or depressions of the bridge, nasal deformities, and asymmetry. Rhinoplasty can also correct an obstructed airway or deviated septum.
If you’re ready to finally love what you see when you look in the mirror, contact Dr. Maher Anous and his team to learn more about your rhinoplasty options in Beverly Hills.
Is a Rhinoplasty Right for You?
If you’re unhappy with the way your nose looks, you’re in good company. In 2016 there were almost one million rhinoplasties performed worldwide, and America was ranked in the top three according to the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). With such a large demand for the procedure, you want to be confident that you’ve selected a surgeon that has the experience and knowledge to understand how important the role between nasal form and function can be.

Why Choose Dr. Anous for Cosmetic Nose Surgery?
As with many other procedures, nose correction is highly individualized, and great care must be taken to develop a surgical plan that meets your expectations. Dr. Anous has dedicated himself to understanding the balance between appearance and the function of the nose. He recognizes the subtle features that have a profound impact on how your nose will function after surgery and incorporates this within the surgical procedure. With that in mind, the surgical team will work closely with you to develop a care plan that will address your needs and create an aesthetically pleasing nose.

There are two types of rhinoplasty techniques, the open and the closed. These terms describe whether the surgery will include incisions on the on the inside or outside of the nose. The choice between using open versus closed depends upon the surgeon’s choice and comfort zone. As of late, the open technique has gained popularity, as it gives the surgeon visual exposure of the entire nasal framework.

For any rhinoplasty, it may be necessary to graft cartilage for either contour or function. Most often, the grafted material can be harvested from areas within the nose, but when this is not possible, the material can be obtained from other areas of the body such as the ear.
It is also important to note, although, that not all rhinoplasties require grafts to maintain or augment supporting structure. If your case requires grafting, Dr. Anous will discuss options and review any necessary information associated with the procedure. It is his goal to give you the best results possible and eliminate the need for secondary procedures.
Rhinoplasty Techniques with Dr. Maher Anous
During a closed rhinoplasty, Dr. Anous will use inside the nose incisions which are, therefore, not visible. Due to the reduced visibility offered by this approach, the technique is limited to cases of “profiloplasty” where dorsal hump protrusion is modified, and nasal tip projection altered. During your consultation, Dr. Anous can inform you whether a closed rhinoplasty technique can achieve your desired goals. While offering certain advantages, the closed technique is hampered by visibility and demands a higher degree of skill than the open approach.
Open rhinoplasty involves the elevation of the skin from the underlying supportive framework. The technique allows the surgeon to have unimpeded visibility and access to the nasal structure beneath.
Open rhinoplasty offers improved accuracy and better control in reshaping the nose. Typically, the scars associated with this technique are relatively small. As the placement of the incision is at the narrowest portion of the underside of the nose, it is unlikely that anyone will notice.
Occasionally, patients who desire rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons also have trouble with constricted airways due to a deviated septum. When that is the case, the two issues can be treated during the same surgical procedure. The results are improved nasal contours and clear, easy breathing, both of which boost patients’ well-being and confidence.
After your Nose Job: Healing and Recovery
The recovery period will vary depending upon the technique used and the overall complexity of the procedure. Dr. Anous generally completes nose surgery on an outpatient basis; you don’t have to remain in an After-Care facility overnight, but you would want to take it easy for a few days. It is not uncommon for packing and splints to be placed inside the nose, as well as bandages and a splint on the outside to support and protect the new structures during healing.
Swelling and bruising are normal immediately after surgery and will subside within the first few weeks. However, it may take several months to a year before your new nasal contour is fully refined. Occasionally, you may notice swelling throughout the year, usually in the morning but this is nothing to be alarmed about.
Specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site and any medications to apply or take orally will be given to help reduce the potential for infection and to aid in the healing process. If at any time you have questions or concerns Dr. Anous and his staff will be available for the guide you through your recovery.
