The correction of retrogenia (weak or "posteriorly positioned" chin) can be effectively performed with a silicone implant placed through an external incision below the chin line (I no longer perform the intra-oral placement of the implant because it interfers with the proper function of the mentalis muscle and risks implant misplacement). Bigger deficiencies than the one shown here would require the actual advancement of the bony chin by an osteotomy (bone cut).
